Ohio State QB Miller given preseason honor

Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller was named Big Ten preseason offensive player of the year in a poll organized by the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Miller received 24 of 26 votes by writers who cover the conference.

Quarterbacks Taylor Martinez of Nebraska and Devin Gardner of Michigan each received one vote.

Last year, Miller was named the conference's best offensive player, was fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting and led the Buckeyes to a 12-0 record.

Wisconsin running back Montee Ball received last year's preseason honor with 14 votes. Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson was second with nine votes and Miller got one vote.

Miller averaged 276 offensive yards in 2012, just two yards behind Martinez. Miller passed for 2,039 yards and rushed for 1,271. His rushing mark was fourth in the Big Ten. The top three rushers from last year -- Michigan State's Le'Veon Bell, Ball and Robinson -- are gone, making Miller the top returning rusher in the conference.
