Dec 4 (The Sports Xchange) - The Tampa Bay Lightning signed head coach Jon Cooper to a multi-year contract extension on Friday. Cooper is in the final year of his current contract. The extension is believed to be two years, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Cooper was named the eighth head coach in franchise history on March 25, 2013. He replaced Guy Boucher with 16 games remaining in the 2012-13 season. A native of Prince George, British Columbia, Cooper has led the Lightning to a 112-70-23 record and a .602 winning percentage in 205 games. He has guided the Lightning to the Stanley Cup playoffs in each of his two full seasons since coming to Tampa Bay, including a trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 2015. The Lightning are 12-11 with 27 points this season. On April 11, Cooper earned his 100th career victory, making him the fifth-fastest to do so among those who debuted in the league since 2000. The 2014-15 season included a record of 50-24-8 as the team reached the 50-win plateau for the first time in franchise history. The Lightning also set a new franchise high for points in a season with 108. The Lightning's success transferred over to the Stanley Cup playoffs with Tampa Bay defeating the Detroit Red Wings in seven games, the Montreal Canadiens in six and the New York Rangers in seven before eventually losing to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Final. - - - The San Jose Sharks recalled forwards Micheal Haley and Dylan DeMelo from the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League (AHL). Haley, 29, has posted six points (four goals, two assists) in seven games with the Baracuda this season. He has appeared in seven games with the Sharks, with 15 penalty minutes. DeMelo, 22, has recorded five assists in 13 games with the Barracuda and has played in two games with the Sharks this season, making his NHL debut on Oct. 17. - - - The Nashville Predators reassigned forward Cody Bass to Milwaukee of the AHL.
