NFL roundup: Cardinals' LB Washington arrested
Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington was arrested on two aggravated assault charges Friday, according to multiple reports.
Washington had been under investigation stemming from a domestic violence incident this week.
The alleged victim, Washington's ex-girlfriend, showed "clear indications" of being attacked and claimed that Washington choked her, according a Phoenix Police Department report.
Washington met with authorities about the incident on Thursday.
Washington was previously suspended the first four games of the coming season for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.
---Ed Reed's first offseason with the Houston Texans won't begin until late July after the 34-year-old safety underwent surgery for a torn labrum in his hip last week.
The Houston Chronicle reported Reed has been ruled out for organized team activities and the Texans' three-day minicamp in June. Whether he can be on the field in an unlimited capacity by the open of training camp on July 31 won't be known until Reed begins rehabilitating his hip.
----Steve Spagnuolo, who was fired as the New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator in January, was hired by the Baltimore Ravens as a senior defensive assistant, the team announced.
The Ravens also announced that they signed six of their draft picks: cornerback Marc Anthony, center Ryan Jensen, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore, wide receiver Aaron Mellette and guard/tackle Rick Wagner. They were each drafted between the fourth and seventh rounds. The team also signed 14 rookie free agents.
---Quarterback Geno Smith's attitude and leadership skills continue to get questioned.
A week after Yahoo! Sports reported that Smith often used his cell phone to send out texts and check Twitter during pre-draft meetings with teams, one NFC scout piled on.
"He's going to have a tough time in New York," the scout told ESPN New York said Friday. "Right now, he's coming off as a spoiled, pampered brat."
---Brandon Weeden must compete for the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback job, which isn't a surprise to the second-year passer drafted in the first round of the 2012 draft by a different management regime.
First-year coach Rob Chudzinski said he won't hand the job to any quarterback, including incumbent starter Weeden, until a competition with veteran backup Jason Campbell plays out.
---Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid told Sirius XM Radio that No. 1 overall draft pick Eric Fisher might not play left tackle, the position he played at Central Michigan.
Instead, Chiefs tackle Branden Albert may remain on the left side. The team tried to trade Albert during last week's draft.
Reid admitted that the team let Albert seek a trade with other teams. Since that did not work out, he is still the left tackle for now.
