NFL QB Rankings: The safest jerseys to buy
Buying a specific NFL player’s jersey can be a risky business. There’s a reason why some people think the abbreviation stands for Not For Long. Careers can be cut short by injuries, players can be traded away, or they can get released after turning into a bust.
The safe bet is to always buy team gear, but if you want to get an NFL quarterback’s jersey, these are the safest ones, ranked 1-32.

1. Russell Wilson
Wilson has a Super Bowl ring and is under contract four more years. He’s not going anywhere.
2. Cam Newton
It doesn’t get any safer than the NFL MVP. If Cam’s your guy, this is a safe buy.
3. Andrew Luck
Luck was hit hard by injuries last year, but he’s still Indy’s franchise quarterback.
4. Aaron Rodgers
Mr. Rodgers’ position is safe as long as he’s healthy enough to play it.
5. Tom Brady
Even at his advanced age, Brady shows no signs of slowing down. If he wins his appeal, look out.

6. Ben Roethlisberger
Big Ben has two rings and as many weapons as a QB could ask for. He’s sitting pretty.
7. Derek Carr
Carr’s Raiders are on their way up and he’s getting better with each passing year.
8. Jameis Winston
Winston surprised a lot of folks in 2015, present company included. He looks like a real NFL starter.
9. Marcus Mariota
The same goes for Mariota, who should be Tennessee’s franchise guy for a long time.
10. Brock Osweiler
You don’t give $37 million guaranteed to somebody not in your long-term plans.
11. Joe Flacco
Flacco’s deal was just re-structured and extended, which means he’ll be in Baltimore through 2021.
12. Eli Manning
His brother finally hung it up and Eli isn’t getting any younger, but he’s got at least five good years left.
13. Carson Wentz
Philly made it clear what they think of Wentz by giving up so much to get him. He’ll be starting soon.
14. Ryan Tannehill
Tannehill should be safe until at least 2018, when Miami can save over $15 million by cutting him.
15. Blake Bortles
Bortles’ stock is rising and he has two of the top young wideouts in the NFL at his side.
16. Andy Dalton
The red rocket looked great in 2015, but his backup A.J. McCarron did too.

17. Teddy Bridgewater
Teddy’s still young and has time to develop. Minnesota won’t wait forever, though.
18. Matt Ryan
Ryan is under contract three more years, but he’s never led the Falcons far in the playoffs.
19. Drew Brees
Brees can still sling it around with the best of them, but at 37 years old his clock is ticking.
20. Philip Rivers
Rivers is now 34 years old and Mettenberger’s arrival may be a sign of things to come.
21. Tony Romo
The same goes for Romo, who now has Dak Prescott breathing down his neck.
22. Alex Smith
No NFL quarterback can manage a game like Smith, but a more dynamic one may come along some day.
23. Jay Cutler
Cutler’s job is safe for now. However, he’s a holdover from a previous regime and the Bears are rebuilding.
24. Paxton Lynch
Rookies are never a guarantee, and for the time being Mark Sanchez may give Denver better odds to win.
25. Jared Goff
Goff has a clearer path than Wentz to QB1 status, but the Rams don’t look ready to build around him.
26. Matthew Stafford
It’s a new regime in Detroit and Megatron is no longer around to help Stafford.
27. Carson Palmer
Palmer had a great regular season, but his playoff showing says that his ceiling is limited.
28. Tyrod Taylor
Taylor will be playing for his next contract all year and there’s no guarantee Buffalo will pay him with Cardale Jones coming in.
29. Kirk Cousins
Cousins is also playing a game with the ‘Skins front office. If he outplays his franchise tag, he could be on the move in 2017.
30. Colin Kaepernick
Kaepernick was almost dealt to Denver. If things go south quickly for the Niners, expect Chip Kelly to move on.
31. Robert Griffin III
RGIII and the Cleveland Browns. What could possibly go wrong?
32. Sam Bradford
Bradford almost seems to be trying to run himself out of town. As soon as Wentz is ready to start, he’s a goner.
