NFL-National Football League roundup

May 16 (The Sports Xchange) - Denver Broncos quarterback Mark Sanchez is expected to miss the start of next week's organized team activities following thumb surgery on his non-throwing left hand. Sanchez suffered the injury while working in the weight room Thursday as part of the team's strength and conditioning work. - - The Buffalo Bills announced that Shaq Lawson, the team's first-round pick in this year's draft, would undergo shoulder surgery on Tuesday. Lawson, the No. 19 pick out of Clemson in April, might be out for up to six months. - - Quarterback Zach Mettenberger was waived by the Tennessee Titans. Mettenberger started 10 games for the Titans, who went 0-10 in those starts, and had 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. The Titans had seven or fewer points in five of his 10 career starts. - - The NFL is investigating the Baltimore Ravens for a possible violation of the collective bargaining agreement when rookies wore full pads during a recent practice. - - The Cincinnati Bengals signed second-round draft pick, wide receiver Tyler Boyd out of Pittsburgh. In just three seasons at Pitt, Boyd established himself as the Panthers' career leader in receptions (254) and receiving yards (3361). - - The Jacksonville Jaguars signed fourth-round defensive tackle Sheldon Day to a four-year contract. Day, selected out of Notre Dame, became the fifth 2016 selection to sign with the team. - - The Miami Dolphins signed defensive end Jason Jones. Jones played the past three seasons with the Detroit Lions where he started 34 games despite missing most of the 2013 season due to injury. - - The Chicago Bears signed undrafted rookie free agents Kenton Adeyemi, a defensive lineman out of Connecticut, Colorado State-Pueblo wide receiver Kieren Duncan, North Dakota State punter Ben LeCompte and Louisiana Lafayette offensive lineman Donovan Williams. - - The Denver Broncos signed unrestricted free agent linebacker Dekoda Watson. The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Watson is a seventh-year player who appeared in 73 career regular-season games (seven starts) and four postseason contests with Tampa Bay (2010-13), Jacksonville (2014), Dallas (2014) and New England (2015). - - Cornerbacks Brandon Boykin and Ras-I Dowling were released by the Carolina Panthers along with wide receiver Jenson Stoshack. - - The Cleveland Browns signed defensive back Eric Patterson after he participated in the weekend's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. The 5-foot-9, 200-pound Patterson is entering his second NFL season out of Ball State. - - The Washington Redskins signed four free agents and waived two players. The Redskins signed tackle Al Bond, guard Nila Kasitati, linebacker Mike Wakefield and running back Kelsey Young. - - The Seattle Seahawks waived injured linebacker Christian French and signed linebacker Khairi Fortt. French signed with Seattle as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Oregon following last month's draft. He had been viewed as a possible contender for a spot at the strongside linebacker spot vacated by Bruce Irvin's departure. Fortt appears to have a shot to compete for that spot now.
