NFL moves closer to draft format for Pro Bowl
"With the first pick in this year's draft, the AFC selects" could very well be the words fans hear as the NFL is moving closer to changing how Pro Bowl teams are selected.
League officials discussed the idea this week at the league headquarters in New York of instituting a draft format where selected players are drafted on teams, very likely on a primetime, televised selection show, according to CBSSports.com.
Once Pro Bowl player selection is complete, two captains will draft the teams. As of now, just minor details need to be worked out, and the NFL hopes to have everything in order shortly after the draft.
The league and players' union support the idea and the league is trying to figure out how to maximize the interest and fan appeal, and also incentivize the event for the players. Decisions on when and where the draft would take place still need to be sorted out.
The 2014 game still will be played in Hawaii.
