NBA Roundup: Centers off All-Star Game ballot, Warriors waive four
The NBA All-Star ballot will no longer include a center.
The league announced Wednesday that it will combine centers and forwards on the ballot, and ask fans to vote for three "frontcourt" players. Fans previously selected two guards, two forwards and one center from each conference.
"The NBA's competition committee and the league office agreed that having the center position as the only specific position singled out on the ballot was outdated and not representative of today's game or players," NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations Stu Jackson said in a statement. "Our players have become more versatile each season, and this ballot will more accurately reflect that versatility."
Dwight Howard, then of the Orlando Magic, and Andrew Bynum, then of the Los Angeles Lakers, were chosen as the starting centers for the 2012 All-Star Game. Howard was dealt to the Lakers in the offseason, while Bynum now plays for the Philadelphia 76ers.
The change in the All-Star ballot is due to be announced Wednesday, according to Aldridge, with the ballots released to the public on Nov. 13, just two weeks into the season.
The next All-Star Game is scheduled to be played Feb. 17 in Houston.
---The Golden State Warriors have waived guards Carlon Brown and Tarence Kinsey, and forwards Lance Goulbourne and Rick Jackson, the team announced Wednesday.
The team now have 15 players under contract.
