NBA roundup: Bulls' Rose has season-ending surgery
Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose underwent successful season-ending surgery Monday morning to repair a torn medial meniscus in his right knee, the team announced.
The surgery was performed at Rush University Medical Center by team head physician Dr. Brian Cole and team physician Dr. Chuck Bush Joseph.
Rose was injured in the third quarter of the Bulls' loss at the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.
Kirk Hinrich will replace Rose at point guard and Marquis Teague will back him up.
Rose, 25, also sat out the 2012-13 season with a torn left ACL suffered in April 2012. He has played just 50 games in the last three seasons, including one playoff game.
The 2011 NBA Most Valuable Player averaged 15.9 points and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 35.4 percent from the field in 10 games this season.
---The Los Angeles Lakers signed star guard Kobe Bryant to a two-year contract extension, the team announced.
Financial terms of the deal were not announced by the Lakers, but ESPN Los Angeles reported that Bryant will remain the NBA's highest-paid player. Per the report, Bryant is scheduled to make $23.5 million next season and $25 million in the second year of the contract.
Bryant, who is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, will make $30.4 million this season before the extension kicks in.
---The Lakers reassigned forwards Ryan Kelly and Elias Harris to the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA D-League.
---Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut and Portland Trail Blazers guard Mo Williams were suspended one game without pay for fighting, the NBA announced.
The incident occurred with 3:42 left in the third quarter of the Trail Blazers' 113-101 win over the Warriors on Saturday in Oakland.
Bogut initiated the incident by elbowing Trail Blazers center Joel Freeland in the jaw. Portland forward LaMarcus Aldridge was fined $45,000, and Portland guard Wesley Matthews and Golden State forward Draymond Green were fined $20,000 each for escalating it.
---The Warriors recalled center Dewayne Dedmon and guard Nemanja Nedovic from Santa Cruz of the NBA Development League, the team announced.
---Washington Wizards rookie small forward Otto Porter returned to practice Monday for the first time since straining his right hip flexor Sept. 13, CSNWashington.com reported.
Porter, the No. 3 overall pick in the NBA draft this year, was a full participant in practice to the surprise of coach Randy Wittman.
There is no timetable on when Porter will make his NBA debut. He is considered day-to-day.
