Kevin Love expected to miss at least two months with broken hand

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love will undergo surgery on his broken right hand late next week and is expected to miss eight to 10 weeks, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

Love broke the third and fourth metacarpal bones in his right hand while doing knuckle pushups at his home in October. The two-time All-Star missed the first nine games of the season while recovering from the injury. Love, however, re-fractured the third metacarpal bone in the Timberwolves' victory at Denver on Jan. 3.

Surgery was recommended for Love after he visited with hand specialist Dr. Andy Weiland in New York.

Love is averaging 18.3 points and 14 rebounds in 18 games this season. With Love out at least through the middle of March, the Timberwolves might cool on trying to trade second-year forward Derrick Williams. They also will lean more on forward Dante Cunningham. This will be the second hand surgery for Love, who also broke his left hand in a 2010 preseason game.
