Clippers sign free agent Darren Collison

Free-agent point guard Darren Collison has agreed to sign a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers to become Chris Paul's backup, a source told Yahoo! Sports on Saturday.

Collison's money will come from part of the mid-level exception and the contract has a player's option in the second season. The former UCLA star averaged 12 points and 5.1 assists for the Dallas Mavericks last season.

The Mavericks made him an unrestricted free agent to clear salary in hopes of acquiring free agent center Dwight Howard. Howard chose to sign with the Houston Rockets.
