76ers get OK to interview Heat assistant coach David Fizdale for coaching vacancy

The Philadelphia 76ers have received permission to interview Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale for their head coach opening, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Fizdale has been with the Miami Heat the past five seasons, which has included three NBA Finals trips and two championships. His responsibilities with the Heat included scouting, player development and game preparation.

The former University of San Diego basketball player spent the previous five seasons as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks.

The Sixers have also contacted the Denver Nuggets about interviewing assistant Melvin Hunt, a source said. ESPN.com also has reported that the Sixers have reached out to Chicago Bulls assistant coaches Ed Pickney and Adrian Griffin while CSN Philadelphia reported that Boston Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga is also a candidate.

Fizdale, Hunt, Pickney and Griffin are currently in Las Vegas with their respective summer league teams.
