MLB roundup: Mets' Wright could miss Opening Day
A mild intercostal injury that prevented New York Mets third baseman David Wright from playing in Team USA's game Thursday night will sideline him for the remainder of the World Baseball Classic and possibly for Opening Day of Major League Baseball.
Wright was prepared to play against the Dominican Republic when he was scratched from the lineup because the rib injury. The U.S. team faces Puerto Rico on Friday in an elimination game. Should the U.S. advance, the WBC semifinals are Sunday and Monday in San Francisco.
After the injury was diagnosed, the Mets decided to shut down Wright for three to five days before re-evaluating his condition, the New York Daily News reported. He is scheduled to return to Florida on Saturday.
Under WBC rules, the U.S. team can't replace Wright on Friday night, but, should it advance, a sub could be added to the roster. The MLB Network reported that the players' association has checked with San Diego's Chase Headley about replacing Wright if the U.S. advances.

Coming off Tommy John elbow surgery in 2012, Wainwright posted a 14-13 record with a 3.94 ERA in 32 starts last season.

According to multiple reports, the reliever saw a doctor this week in Boston and received an epidural injection in the effected area. He has pitched in only one game during spring training. He probably will begin the season on the disabled list.
---Detroit Tigers Minor League pitcher Cesar Carrillo has received a 100-game suspension without pay for his violations of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
He is currently on the roster of Double-A Erie of the Eastern League.
