MLB revenue reaches $7.5 billion

Because of local television broadcasts and healthy attendance figures, Major League Baseball revenue is expected to be about $7.5 billion for this year.

The Business of Baseball reported Monday that the sport's revenue is on the rise after remaining flat in recent years. Baseball revenue was at $7 billion for two years before this year's increase.

Starting in 2014, new national broadcast contracts with Fox, ESPN and TBS will add another $788.3 million. Even if revenues stay static, the new television deals will push those figures past the $8.4 billion mark.

On top of that, the Los Angeles Dodgers are working on a TV deal that could be worth at least $6 billion. That could bring overall yearly baseball revenue near the $9 billion mark in the not-so-distant future.

Factoring in inflation, the sport's revenue has climbed 257 percent since 1995 when it was $1.4 billion.
