Michigan 2018 pledge David DeJulius isn’t the top rated point guard in his class, but he’s making a case to move up in the rankings. The Detroit native shot the ball extremely well for The Family at Hampton EYBL and is excited to bring his game to Michigan … but not for another year and a half.

DeJulius still has one high school season remaining at Detroit East English Village and he plans to make the most of it.

“Personally feel I played okay, but we’ve got to pull off some wins,” he said after the Family went 0-4. “Hopefully we can come together and get some wins this spring and summer.

“It feels good just to know you’re committed and can go just try to win not worry about who’s here, who’s this, who’s that … just go out and win for your team and what it says on the front of your jersey.”

Scout Norm Eavenson, a long-time respected basketball mind on the East coast, called DeJulius one of his favorites over the first of four EYBL weekends. The future Wolverines averaged 17.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 2.5 turnovers, and 1.3 steals in the four games, shooting 52.7 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from long range against elite competition.

He helped lead his East English team to a very good season, averaging 27 points per game, but still has another level he’s trying to reach. East English was bounced early in the tournament.

“It went okay, not liked I hoped it would be as far as the winning aspect,” he said. “There's more basketball to play. I can learn from that, so it’s all right.

“I’m working on my IQ and athleticism. I’ll work on everything, but those are my main weaknesses.”

Asked how to define his game, he didn’t hesitate.

“I’m tough,” he said. “I just want to win, do whatever it takes to win.”

DeJulius went 8-for-14 from the field, 5-for-9 from three-point range and scored 24 points against Meanstreets, adding three assists, two rebounds and a steal. He was 9 for 17 from the field, 4 for 7 from long range for 22 points with four rebounds five assists and one steal in a loss to New York Lightning, notched 11 points on 4 for 9 shooting (2-of-6 triples) with five rebounds, six assists and a steal against RM5 Elite out of Texas and went 6-15 from the field, 0-2 from 3-point range for 14 points and added seven assists and three steals.

Several coaches were watching him and his teammates, but DeJulius is all maize and blue.

“I’m 100 percent committed to Michigan. I’m not worried about that,” he said. “I’ve loved Michigan since I was six years old. It must have been the colors or something. Then when Trey Burke got there, I really feel in love with it.”

Now that he’s in the fold, DeJulius plans to make head coach John Beilein happy he’s got him.

“He really just says keep working, don’t get satisfied,” DeJulius said. “Just stay at it.”

He knows no other way.
