Mets' Matt Harvey hits 95 mph in final bullpen session

On Monday, Mets right-hander Matt Harvey, who's recovering from October 2013 Tommy John surgery and who won't pitch this season, had a successful final bullpen session of 2014. Here's the relevant tweet from Anthony DiComo of MLB.com:

Per PitchFX, Harvey for his brief yet brilliant career has averaged 95.1 mph with his four-seamer, so this is right in line with established norms. While command is usually the tricky thing for a pitcher coming off Tommy John, the return of Harvey's velocity is indeed a good sign.

Now, Harvey will likely be shut down until spring training in the hopes that he can be in something close to vintage form in time for Opening Day 2015.

In 2013, Harvey, now 25, pitched to a 2.27 ERA, 157 ERA+ and 6.16 K/BB ratio in 178 1/3 innings of work. He was in the NL Cy Young mix until the elbow injury of note shut him down in late August of last year. Across parts of two major-league seasons, Harvey owns a 152 ERA+ and has struck out 261 batters in 237 2/3 innings.
