Marlon Moraes on World Series of Fighting Title Fight: “Now It's My Time”
With a possible World Series of Fighting title shot on the line, bantamweight Marlon Moraes stepped up against Carson Beebe and had probably his best performance to date.
In just 32 seconds, Moraes knocked Beebe out, earning the win and, more importantly, placing himself firmly in the 135-pound title picture.
“It was a good fight,” said Moraes. “It was a great camp and I was prepared to fight anywhere. He came hard and it gave me the opportunity to finish the fight.”
Currently Moraes is riding a six-fight winning streak, with finishes in half of them. In looking back over his current streak, Moraes feels a lot of credit goes towards making the decision to travel away from Florida and train in the North East.
“I had the opportunity to come here to New Jersey to train with Frankie Edgar, Ricardo Almeida, and Mark Henry,” said Moraes. “It was a good move. They have such a great camp here. It’s good to come here and have different training partners and different coaches. I feel like every day I’m learning more and more.
“I’m feeling much better now. I think I’m a much better fighter now than I was in my old fights. I keep getting better and better.”
Having earned his title shot on March 29 in Las Vegas, Moraes (12-4-1) will be facing up-and-comer Josh Rettinghouse in what could end up being the evening’s Fight of the Night.
“I just have to go out there and perform and do what I know what to do,” Moraes told MMAWeekly.com. “Wherever the fight goes I think if I go out there and perform well, I have everything to win the fight.”
Since his WSOF debut last year, Moraes has worked his way to this point with strong performances in his fights with the promotion. Now finally having reached the precipice of his goal, he’s going to give it is his all and do his best to claim the championship.
“I had the opportunity to fight Miguel Torres, and I really wanted to fight that guy because he had a big name and it was a big opportunity and right after that people started talking about the belt,” said Moraes. “Now it’s my time. It’s my opportunity. Now I’ve got to go out there and do it.
“You don’t guys don’t blink. On March 29, I will be ready and I will entertain you guys for sure.”
