Loyola-Chicago 77, Furman 50
Loyola-Chicago overcame a sluggish first half and rolled past visiting Furman 77-50 Saturday to extend its winning streak to four games.
The streak matches the longest for the Ramblers under second-year coach Porter Moser.
The Ramblers (6-2) jumped out to an early 14-2 lead but poor shooting opened the way for the visiting Paladins (2-5) to cut their deficit to 29-27 at the intermission.
The Paladins tied it in the opening seconds of the second half when guard Stephen Croone converted a layup following his midcourt steal.
But the Ramblers then went on a 20-0 run before Furman scored again to re-establish control. The gap remained at least 19 points the rest of the way with the biggest Loyola lead 28 points at 62-34 with under 8 minutes left.
After shooting just 31 percent in the opening 20 minutes, the Ramblers wound up at 47.6 for the game after making 20 of their 31 attempts in the second half. Furman shot only 35.8 percent for the game.
Loyola freshman guard Devon Turk scored a career-high 19 points off the bench to lead all scorers. Junior guard Charlie Reddick led Furman with 12 points.
