Looks and Touches: Week 9

The following is a list of the Week 9 leaders in looks and touches. It defines those running backs and receivers who received the most attention this past weekend.

Touches is defined as the number of times a running back carried or caught the football.
Looks is defined as the number of times a player was the intended target of a pass.

TOUCHES
Clinton Portis had his first big game of the season, rushing for 196 yards on his 36 carries (no catches), with 1 TD. Portis had yet to have more than 100 yards of offense in any game this season, and his previous season-high for touches was 23 (Week 6). Portis handcuff Ladell Betts also had one of his better games of the season, rushing for a season-high 64 yards on nine carries (no catches).

LenDale White is adjusting well to his role as featured back. He's the league leader in touches over the past three weeks (89 – 83 carries, six receptions), and he's accumulated 368 yards of offense (337 rushing, 31 receiving) during that span, with 2 TD. Also worth noting is that the Titans have gone 3-0 in those games.

Joseph Addai's big game against the Patriots moved him into second place among RB for fantasy points in default scoring leagues. Addai had the second 100/100 game of the season (Brian Westbrook turning in the first in Week 3), rushing for 112 yards on 26 carries and turning five catches into 114 yards, including a 73-yard score. Addai's 139 fantasy points are second only to Adrian Peterson's 166 in default leagues, despite his having missed a game to injury.

Rudi Johnson and Kenny Watson split the touches for the Bengals in Week 9, with very different results. Johnson returned from missing two games due to a hamstring injury and rushed for 11 yards on nine carries and had one catch for six yards. Watson was limited earlier in the week's practices with a mild concussion, but rushed for 11 yards on four carries and had seven catches for 90 yards. On the season, Johnson has accumulated 294 yards and 1 TD on his 80 touches in five games, while Watson has 579 yards and 4 TD on 111 touches in eight games.

• The platoon watch notes when a team's RB2 is given at least half as many touches as the RB1, regardless of the reason. Platoon watch for Week 9 included: Cincinnati (Kenny Watson 11, Rudi Johnson 10), Dallas (Marion Barber 19, Julius Jones 16), Denver (Travis Henry 11, Selvin Young 8), Jacksonville (Fred Taylor 14, Maurice Jones-Drew 7), New England (Laurence Maroney 15, Kevin Faulk 10), NY Jets (Thomas Jones 15, Leon Washington 8), and Seattle (Shaun Alexander 15, Maurice Morris 11).

• Not surprisingly, Adrian Peterson led all RB with at least 10 touches in yards per touch in Week 9 action. Peterson rushed for an NFL-record 296 yards on his 30 carries and added a 19-yard reception, averaging 10.16 yards on his 31 touches. Rudi Johnson brought up the rear, totaling 17 yards (11 rushing, six receiving) on his 10 touches (nine carries, one catch) for an average of just 1.7 yards per touch.

LOOKS
Bobby Engram was a busy man in Week 9, as he was the intended target on 21 of Matt Hasselbeck's 47 pass attempts versus the Browns. The 21 looks were a single-game high for the season, with Engram converting them into 14 catches for 139 yards and 1 TD. Engram has stepped to the forefront of the Seahawks' passing game in Deion Branch's absence – over the past three games, Engram has averaged 14.3 looks, 9.7 catches, and 110.7 receiving yards.

Kellen Winslow was the main cog of the other offense in the Seahawks/Browns matchup. He was targeted a season-high 18 times as Derek Anderson threw a season-high 48 passes. Winslow converted the looks into season-highs of 11 receptions and 125 yards. On the season, Winslow is second among TE in looks (72), fourth in receptions (42), and first in receiving yards (657).

Lee Evans is finally starting to justify his ADP of 39.8, good for 14th among WR. He had season highs of 13 looks, nine catches, and 165 receiving yards in Week 9, and has averaged 9.3 looks, 6.3 catches, 133.7 yards, and 0.7 TD over the past three games.
