Lakers' Gasol out with tendonitis

Power forward Pau Gasol will be lost to the Los Angeles Lakers indefinitely because of tendonitis in both knees, the team announced Tuesday.

Gasol, who is listed on the injury report as day-to-day, has been bothered by the tendonitis since training camp opened in October. He was replaced in the starting lineup Tuesday by Antawn Jamison.

"The biggest thing with him was that he was playing hurt and in this league you just can't do that," Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni said. "I just didn't think he was running fluidly."

Gasol, 32, made the decision to sit after talking to the team's training staff, D'Antoni said.

"We got to get him healthy," D'Antoni said. "Whatever it takes -- one game, two games, 10 games -- I don't know. It's day to day but he's got to be healthy. It wasn't fair (to him). He's trying to battle through some stuff and in this league, you just can't do that."

Gasol has been averaging a career-low 12.6 points and 42 percent field-goal shooting in 17 games this season. Since he took over with an up-tempo offense last month, D'Antoni has said Gasol doesn't fit his system.

He did not in the final six minutes of the Lakers loss to Orlando on Sunday, giving way to Jamison.
