Kirk lands back where he started in Miami
To compare Donnavan Kirk's college basketball career with a roller coaster would be an understatement.
As a top 100 recruit in the Class of 2009, there was much hope and anticipation on the Miami (Fla.) campus when Kirk chose the Hurricanes over a number of top programs.
He spent his first two years at Miami, then transferred and played two years at DePaul.
And now with one year of eligibility remain, Kirk is headed back to Miami and because he already has earned a degree from DePaul, he will be eligible to play immediately.
Miami has lost its top six scorers off its Sweet 16 team from last year. Kirk should have plenty of opportunity to earn playing time.
In his first go-round with the Hurricanes, Kirk played only four games in the 2009-2010 season before he was sidelined with an injury. The NCAA awarded him a medical redshirt for the year, and suited up in 2010 as a freshman.
Midway through the season, Kirk decided to leave Miami and transferred to DePaul after less than three points and 10 minutes per game.
An NCAA loophole allowed Kirk to become eligible just two games into the 2011-2012 season.
The 6-foot-9 Kirk averaged 6.2 points and 3.9 boards this past season for DePaul. He did lead the team with 50 blocks and shot 38.7 percent from 3-point range.
"I am a lot stronger than when I came in to Miami as a freshman," Kirk told stateoftheu.com. "My body is better. I am more intelligent. I have learned so much about the game. I am a better shot-blocker and a better shooter. I made a lot of strides in my game at DePaul. But I still have a lot of strides to make."
