Kessler named USC's starting QB

USC coach Lane Kiffin on Monday named sophomore Cody Kessler his starting quarterback for this week's game against Boston College.

Kessler started the first two games of the season, but on both occasions, Kessler's starting status was not made public until game time.

Kessler shared time in the first two games with Max Wittek, but neither had much success in the Trojans' 10-7 loss to Washington State on Saturday.

The two quarterbacks combined for just 54 yards passing in the loss. It was the fewest passing yards in a game by the Trojans since 1998.

Kessler was 8-for-13 for 41 yards, one interception and no touchdowns against the Cougars, while Wittek was 3-for-8 for 13 yards, one interception and no scores.

USC is 114th of 123 FBS teams in passing offense and 118th in pass efficiency.
