The Michigan State cornerback who was allegedly assaulted by Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is transferring from the team.

The school announced Wednesday evening Jermaine Edmondson would be leaving the program in what it said was a search of more playing time.

“In discussions with Jermaine Edmondson following spring practice and in the weeks thereafter, it became clear that Jermaine wanted to play a larger role on the team,” Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said in a statement. “After consulting with him in the summer, he felt it was in his best interest to finish his playing career elsewhere. We have granted his immediate release to transfer to another institution to have that opportunity.”

Edmondson is scheduled to be a redshirt senior in 2016. As a junior last season he had 24 tackles and appeared in all 14 of Michigan State’s games.

In a police report regarding his run in with Green over the weekend, Edmondson said he was bumped by Green on Friday at a bar and subsequently choked by two acquaintances of Green’s. Edmondson and his girlfriend and friends went to the same bar and approached Green after Green allegedly checked out Edmondson’s girlfriend. Then he says Green punched him. Edmondson’s full account of the situation is below.

Green told ESPN Tuesday that his legal team is handling the situation and he believes it will be resolved quickly. Green posted bond shortly after he was arrested early Saturday morning.

Edmondson is a native of Canton, Ohio and played in 24 games his first two seasons at Michigan State.
