Jaguars lose six in a row; can things get any worse?
The Jacksonville Jaguars lost their sixth game in a row on Sunday with a 28-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills. The Jags now fall to 2-9, which ties them for the third-worst record in the NFL. It seems like the same tired story keeps replaying: the Jaguars keep it close, but fail to capitalize and lose the game. This is exactly what happened this week.
The Jaguars had a solid first half, as they held a 7-6 lead at halftime. However, things starting going downhill once the third quarter started. Like, literally once the third quarter started. On the first play of Buffalo’s first drive of the half, LeSean McCoy exploded for a 75-yard touchdown run. Keep in mind that the Jags held McCoy to less than 10 yards in the first two quarters. Once Shady ran loose, Jacksonville lost their momentum. They allowed 153 rushing yards and 166 passing yards. 80 of those passing yards went to Sammy Watkins, who had just returned from injury. The Jaguars did sack Tyrod Taylor five times though, so there were some bright spots.

Offensively, Jacksonville just couldn’t get it done. Blake Bortles only threw 26 passes, 13 of which were completions, so it’s not surprise that he only had 126 yards. What he lacked through the air, he made up for on the ground: Bortles ran for 81 yards today. He also threw two touchdowns and no interceptions. Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett certainly played to Bortles’ strengths by limiting his chances of turning the ball over. The Jags ran the ball 37 times, 13 of which were by Denard Robinson. Chris Ivory was the only running back with a touchdown.
Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns continue their respectively disappointing years, as they combined for only three receptions and 36 yards. Marqise Lee stepped up again with four receptions, 37 yards and a touchdown. Yep, you read that right. The #3 receiver had a better day than the #1 and #2 combined.
MVP: Malik Jackson
Malik Jackson finally proved to be worth his $90 million contract today. He led the Jaguars’ pass rushing onslaught with two sacks. In all, he finished with five tackles. Not a bad outing from the former Bronco.
In all though, the Jags suffered yet another close loss. The competitiveness of their games just makes it worse on the fans when they end up losing.
