Jags sign RB Toston with Jones-Drew out

With Maurice Jones-Drew sidelined due to a foot injury, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed second-year running back Keith Toston on Tuesday.

Toston, 25, was waived by the Jaguars just before the season began after playing for the team through the preseason. He had 22 carries for 171 yards during exhibition play.

Toston's only regular-season NFL experience came with the St. Louis Rams in 2010, when he played all 16 games as an undrafted rookie out of Oklahoma State. He had 19 carries for 54 yards, plus two receptions for 29 yards.

In 2011, Toston was cut by the Rams after the preseason.

The Jaguars cleared a roster spot for Toston by waiving defensive end Ryan Davis. A rookie out of Bethune-Cookman, Davis appeared in one game with Jacksonville.

Jones-Drew will miss Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers due to a foot injury, coach Mike Mularkey said. The team was awaiting an official diagnosis on Jones-Drew, who was feared to have a Lisfranc injury, a displacement of bones within the foot. If it is a Lisfranc injury, Jones-Drew probably would miss the rest of the season.
