Injury Roundup: Week 5

Adam Levitan has notes on 31 players to consider adding to your squad. Michael Vick is back in the saddle

Week 5 thankfully was without any catastrophic injuries, but this being a contact sport, for the most part, there were still a few fantasy relevant bumps and bruises to report.

Michael Vick left Sunday’s game against the Giants in the second quarter with a hamstring injury. His passing had been poor up to that point with just six completions on 14 attempts for 105 yards and no touchdowns. He had buoyed his fantasy stats by rushing seven times for 79 yards though and it was on one of those runs that he hurt his hamstring. Nick Foles came in and had a productive game, completing 16-of-25 for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Coach Chip Kelly says that Vick is his quarterback if healthy. He will have a MRI on Monday and we’ll know more, but Vick was limping on the sidelines and very much needs his mobility to be effective. With Foles not playing poorly there is a good chance they’ll make sure Vick is at 100% before starting him again.

Blaine Gabbert left the game against the Rams in the third quarter with a hamstring injury after completing 9-of-19 passes for 181 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions (one a pick-six) and two fumbles. It was his usual ineffective game and Chad Henne came in and completed 7-of-13 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown, but coach Bradley says Gabbert is inexplicably still his quarterback.

St. Louis Rams rookie Zac Stacy rushed 14 times for 78 yards. The previous high for a Rams back this season was 20 attempts for 63 yards by Daryl Richardson in Week one. Stacy had to leave the game in the fourth quarter with a rib injury, but insists he only had the wind knocked out of him. If he’s telling the truth, he should have a full week of practice and remain the early down back.

David Wilson scored his first touchdown of the season showing a nice burst up the middle on a five-yard draw, but left in the second quarter with a neck injury. He didn’t re-enter the game due to precautionary reasons, but he is day to day and seems to have avoided a severe injury.

Ryan Mathews left the Raiders game in the second quarter with a concussion. He was already running behind Danny Woodhead who was getting more non-passing down carries than usual and is by far the more trusted back now. There is little upside left for Mathews in this offense.

Rashad Jennings didn't return to the field after halftime due to a hamstring injury. If Darren McFadden and Jennings aren't able to go in a tough matchup against kansas City next week, it will be Marel Reece's job

Calvin Johnson wasn’t able to play against the Packers in Week 5, but says he was “real close” to being able to go. He should be able to play next week.
