Indians sign OF Murphy to two-year deal

The Cleveland Indians signed free agent outfielder David Murphy to a two-year contract, the team announced Monday.

The deal also includes a club option for 2016.

MLB.com reported that the deal is worth $12 million.

Murphy, 32, had career-lows with a .220 batting average, .282 on-base percentage and .374 slugging percentage over 142 games last season with the Texas Rangers. He hit 13 home runs, 26 doubles and 45 RBI as he evolved into a part-time outfielder and pinch-hitter.

Over his career, he is a .275 hitter with 160 doubles, 15 triples, 86 home runs and 364 RBIs in 849 games with the Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox since his 2006 debut.
