Top 5 corner infield pickups among the under 50% owned crowd
1. Adam Lind - With an OPS over .850 the past two seasons, should definitely take his hot start seriously | 1. Adam Lind - Health remains an issue but this is a legit hitter in a good environment | 1. Mitch Moreland - It's silly that he's just 1 percent owned - Guaranteed at-bats, good pop |
2. Marcus Semien - A big part of his appeal is his versatility, as he can play hot corner in addition to the MI spots | 2. Michael Morse - Should stay healthier no longer playing OF - He's hitting directly being Giancarlo Stanton | 2. Kendrys Morales - Great bet for a .270-something AVG and 20-or-so homers |
3. Mike Moustakas - On a roll as KC's No. 2 hitter, and recently hit his first career opposite-field HR - perhaps there is still hope | 3. Mark Teixeira - Remains BA risk but has two HRs over 16 ABs and plays in Yankee Stadium | 3. Adam Lind - If nothing else, we know the power is real - With 450 at-bats, we'll get 20-plus bombs. |
4. Billy Butler - HR-challenged, but should deliver a solid average to go with serviceable run production hitting cleanup | 4. Kennys Vargas - Had a .772 OPS as a rooke last year and is hitting cleanup behind Joe Mauer | 4. David Freese - No one seems to like Freese, but he does his hiting in a terrific lineup |
5. Kennys Vargas - Off to a slow start, but like his potential as MIN cleanup man | 5. C.J. Cron - He's hitting fifth in the Angels lineup - Please ignore his first 10 ABs | 5. Ryan Howard - Because I needed a fifth name, or this gimmick doesn't work |
Top 5 middle infield pickups among the under 50% owned crowd
1. Marcus Semien - Although no HRs or SBs yet, he possesses an above-average ability to do both among MI-eligibles | 1. Roughned Odor - Was pretty surprised to see he wasn't owned in 50% of leagues | 1. Marcus Semien - Double-digit power/speed potential with terrific positional flexibility (2B-3B-SS) |
2. Roughned Odor - Held up well in TEX as a 20-year-old last season, and starting to come on (two doubles, HR in past 3) | 2. Jedd Gyorko - I still believe in his power. - Obviously Petco hurts though. | 2. Chris Owings - He'll hit eventually, and you can expect him to run, too |
3. Devon Travis - Bought a couple Travis shares before season began and I'm already enjoying dividends | 3. Brad Miller - He was one of the buziest middle infielders in all of baseball last year - I'm not giving up | 3. Devon Travis - The early numbers have been plenty useful - He's legit |
4. Brad Miller - He was a disaster the first two months of '14, but he's acquitted himself at the plate since then | 4. Chris Owings - Another post-hype sleeper, only unlike Gyorko and Miller he plays in a hitter's park | 4. Jed Lowrie - When healthy, Lowrie can help - Decent power/speed potential, reasonably high floor |
5. Jed Lowrie - Hit 16 HRs in 97 games in his last tour in HOU, and already has two bombs in his first five games of '15 | 5. Jed Lowrie - He's one season removed from a .290/.344/.446 line and already has two HRs and a SB this year | 5. Addison Russell - We won't see him until mid (or late) summer, but he's a future star |
Top 5 outfield pickups among the under 50% owned crowd
1. Angel Pagan - As long as he's healthy, his BA/SB skills belong on a fantasy roster | 1 Steven Souza - It's fairly shocking he's not owned in 50% of leagues given his minor league numbers | 1. Steven Souza - Minor league stats were obscene, and playing time isn't a worry |
2. Kevin Kiermaier - Has five XBH in five games, and has been hitting leadoff for Rays lately | 2. Carlos Beltran - He's one year removed from a .296-79-24-84 line in 145 games | 2. Anthony Gose - Not exactly the best hitter in the player pool, but his speed is silly. |
3. Michael Saunders - DL return is near - look forward to seeing his pop/speed talents in potent Blue Jays lineup | 3. Travis Snider - Former top prospect who plays in park that greatly helps HR for LHB | 3. Dexter Fowler - Hard not to like the lineup position - Fowler offers respectable pop, speed |
4. Anthony Gose - Not in love with his bat, but he can run, and there's a whole lot of juice behind him in that DET lineup | 4. Chris Coghlan - He had a top-45 wRC+ among all hitters last year - Why is he being so ignored? | 4. Nori Aoki - We know he'll run, we know he'll hit for average - Hot start is a bonus. |
5. Alejandro De Aza - Like the BAL environment - he's a season removed from going 17/20 | 5. Desmond Jennings - Once a top prospect with a bunch of tools, still only 28 years old | 5. Michael Taylor- While Span is out, Taylor can help - Huge minor league stats in '14 |
Top 5 pitcher pickups among the under 50% owned crowd
1. Miguel Castro - Pushes 100 mph with fastball and now occupies TOR closer role | 1. Miguel Castro - He sure looks like Toronto's closer and has filthy stuff | 1. Miguel Castro - He's closing in Toronto, so you should be adding |
2. Carlos Rodon - Fanned 9 (in 5 IP) in his first Triple-A start of the season - he's not for long in Charlotte | 2. Drew Pomeranz - Former top-five pick looks like he's ready to live up to the hype in Oakland | 2. Carlos Martinez - Serious talent, terrific pitching environment and team context |
3. A.J. Burnett - Nice 1st start back in PIT, where he excelled in '12 and '13 | 3. A.J. Burnett - Should go back to being plenty valuable now returning to Pittsburgh. | 3. Shane Greene - Extremely promising start to his season, and run support shouldn't be an issue |
4. Shane Greene - After solid K-per-IP MLB debut stint in '14, pitched 8 shutout IP to open '15 | 4. Bobby Parnell - I'd be stashing him on my DL as a very strong candidate to be closing within a month | 4.Jeurys Familia - Another widely available closer, on the wire for most of you. |
5. Drew Pomeranz - Has excuse (Coors) for landing in post-hype shadow - OAK an ideal spot for breakout campaign | 5. Carlos Rodon - Why not? Go with some upside | 5. Adam Ottavino - It's only a matter of time, right? |
Top 5 biggest concerns among those players at least 80% owned
1. Masahiro Tanaka - Was knocked around in his '15 debut, and showed little faith in his fastball in the process | 1. Masahiro Tanaka - I won't repeat myslef here, but yeah, I'm concerned | 1. Evan Gattis - Brutal open to his season, full of Ks - Pop is real, but he's a career .249 hitter |
2. Evan Gattis - 9 Ks (and 0 hits) in first 15 ABs (yikes) - he didn't have an issue with slow starts in ATL | 2. Andrew McCutchen- Hopefully his knee injury that's dated back to spring training isn't serious - But it's not ideal | 2.Masahiro Tanaka - You need this explained? Huge health worry |
3. Elvis Andrus - I own no shares of this overrated fantasy SS, but if you are an Andrus owner, I'd be concerned with drop to No. 7 spot in lineup | 3. Anthony Rendon - He felt more "discomfort" in his knee this weekend. I'm beyond concerned | 3. Jose Fernandez - He's 82 percent-owned, not expected to return until June or July - Long wait for an unknown. |
4. Josh Harrison - Off to slow start following only successful full MLB season (which landed him a fat new contract) | 4. Chris Carter - He's a career .220 hitter who's struck out eight times over 19 ABs this season | 4. Troy Tulowitzki - He's only topped 100 games once in the past three seasons - That's a small red flag. |
5. Michael Brantley - I was dubious of a 20/20 repeat, and an early back injury certainly won't help his cause | 5. Justin Verlander - Consider me wary about him returning to form, to say the least | 5. Chris Davis - If he bounces back, he'll be someone else's success story |
