Franchitti, Judd ending 11-year marriage

Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti and actress Ashley Judd are breaking up after 11 years of marriage.

People magazine reported the split on Tuesday night and the couple later confirmed it in a statement.

"We have mutually decided to end our marriage," the statement said. "We'll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed."

Franchitti, 39, and Judd were married in 2001 in Franchitti's native Scotland. She had been a constant presence in his pits at IndyCar and NASCAR races over the years. Franchitti is a four-time Izod IndyCar series champion.

Judd is most known for her roles in A Time to Kill and Kiss the Girls. Recently, she has appeared in the televison series Missing.

The 44-year-old actress, whose mother is country singer Naomi Judd, is thought to be considering a run for the U.S. Senate from Kentucky. She is active in political causes and also a big University of Kentucky basketball fan.

The couple turned to Twitter after news of the breakup became public to express their feelings.

Judd tweeted: "Family forever. @dariofranchitti."

Franchitti replied: "@ashleyjudd family forever."
