Fairley ready to act the part of pro athlete

Nick Fairley didn't have much to say regarding two arrests this offseason. The No.13 pick in the 2011 draft issued a statement on his Facebook page Friday.

"I want to personally apologize to my fans, teammates and the Detroit Lions organization for bringing this unwanted attention to our team. I recognize my actions were inexcusable and I personally need to uphold the expected standard of behavior of a professional athlete," the statement read. "I do not take for granted this opportunity and feel blessed everyday to play in the NFL. At this time, I am fully cooperating with the Mobile, Ala., police department. I am now focused on moving forward and committing my focus to football. I would like to thank everyone for your concern and understanding."

Fairley is expected to face NFL discipline as repeat offender. He was arrested for marijuana possession in April and cited for DUI May 27.

The Lions have been in the news for several off-field incidents, including 2011 draft picks Mikel Leshoure (twice cited for marijuana possession) and Titus Young, who sucker-punched teammate Louis Delmas.

Offensive tackle Johnny Culbreath was also arrested on marijuana charges in January.
