Eagles trade linebackers to Colts to get CB Thomas
The Philadelphia Eagles acquired cornerback Kevin Thomas and a conditional seventh-round draft pick in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts that sent linebackers Moise Fokou and Greg Lloyd to the Colts.
Colts general manager Ryan Grigson had been the Eagles director of player personnel before being hired by Indianapolis in January, and this is the second trade he's made with his former team in two weeks.
On July 22, the Colts traded defensive back D.J. Johnson to the Eagles for defensive tackle Ollie Ogbu. Both were on their respective team's practice squad last year.
"I think you get someone there who you talk to every day and then you just try to figure things out," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said of his familiarity with Grigson. "Obviously that relationship helps and we are able to talk about things. We know that we will shoot each other straight because he is one of my closest friends. At the same time we are going to try to find win-win situations and I wouldn't be surprised if there were to be more action to come eventually and maybe down the road."
Fokou started 22 games in three seasons with the Eagles, and he played in 11 games, including seven starts, in 2011, when he had 15 tackles and seven assists.
Lloyd spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad last year and was inactive for the last five games. Fokou and Lloyd were both seventh-round picks by Philadelphia.
Thomas played in nine games for the Colts last season and made five starts. He had 33 tackles in 2011.
He was a third-round draft choice by the Colts in 2010, but he was on Injured Reserve as a rookie with a knee injury.
