Dolphins release WR Chad Johnson

One day after Miami Dolphins wide reciver Chad Johnson was arrested and jailed for allegedly head-butting his wife, the Dolphins announced on Sunday that they have terminated Johnson's contract.

This may mark the end of Johnson's NFL career.

Team officials apparently did not believe Johnson's story that his alleged head butt of his wife was accidental, CBSSports.com reported.

"His story wasn't believable to almost anyone in the organization," a source told CBSSports.com.

Apparently, Johnson, 34, had been warned when he joined the Dolphins in June that they did not want him to create any distractions.

His ordeal over the weekend was certainly a distraction.

Johnson was released from jail on Sunday afternoon after being arrested on Saturday for allegedly head-butting his wife.

He has not been charged with a crime yet, although his wife told police she wanted to file charges.

The police report said that the argument between Johnson and Evelyn Lozada began in his car, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. He butted her in the head, causing a three-inch laceration. They were arguing about a receipt she found for a box of condoms.

Police said Lozado claimed Johnson began screaming, "I don't give a f---. I don't give a f--- about my career."

Lozada then fled to a neighbor's house and called police. She told police she plans to file charges against Johnson.

Johnson's account is different, according to the report. He said that after he yelled "F--- it" then Lozada head-butted him, causing the cut.

Johnson's bond had been set at $2,500 and he had been told by the court to stay away from Lozado.
