Dolphins CB Patterson placed on IR

The Miami Dolphins placed starting cornerback Dimitri Patterson on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday.

Patterson had battled a groin injury most of the season and re-injured it in Miami's 34-28 victory Sunday over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Dolphins also placed backup cornerback and special teamer R.J. Stanford on season-ending injured reserve with a broken fibula.

The Dolphins signed free agent cornerback Justin Rogers and safety Michael Thomas off the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad to take their place on the roster.

The 5-foot-11. 181-pound Rogers comes to the Dolphins after spending time with the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills in 2013. He originally entered the NFL with the Buffalo Bills as a seventh-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

The 5-11, 196-pound Thomas joins Miami's roster after spending the past two seasons with the 49ers. He originally entered the NFL with the 49ers as an undrafted college free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft.
