Despite Thursday's result, Jaguars owner Shad Khan says Gus Bradley won't be fired

Their Color Rush uniforms weren’t the only ugly thing about the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night in their 36-22 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

But despite falling to 2-5 in a bad division and looking both unprepared and uninterested for the majority of the game, and despite owner Shad Khan sitting with the team earlier in the week to wonder why his team, which he saw spend big in free agency this year, just isn’t getting wins, Khan reportedly has decided to stand pat when it comes to head coach Gus Bradley.

Jacksonville Times-Union beat writer Ryan O’Halloran tweeted that Khan would not be firing Bradley, with the owner saying, “Actions speak louder than words. Very little for me to say.”

It was the 41st loss in Bradley’s 55 games as Jaguars head coach.

While Khan may allow Bradley to remain as head coach through the remainder of the 2016 season, it’s impossible to imagine he’ll still have a job on Jan. 3, two days after the team’s last game.

How bad were the first two quarters for Jacksonville? O’Halloran ran down some of the numbers:

  • First-half yards: Tennessee 354, Jaguars 60. The Titans’ yardage total was a first-half high in the NFL this year. At one point, it was 260-29.

  • First-half penalty yards: Jaguars 50, Tennessee 14. Jalen Ramsey (late hit) and Dante Fowler (punching a player) showed no poise; the Jaguars used to play with discipline but not this year.

  • First-half first downs: Tennessee 20, Jaguars 3. The Jaguars didn’t run a play in Titans territory until six minutes remained in the second quarter. Their five first-half drives resulted in five punts.

  • First-half score: Tennessee 27, Jaguars 0. It was the second-biggest halftime deficit of the Bradley Era, behind only Indianapolis’ 30-0 lead in Week 3 of 2014; Blake Bortles’ career started at halftime.

Jacksonville did put together an 11 play, 75 yard touchdown drive to open the third quarter, but as soon as the Titans got the ball back, they marched 75 yards in just seven plays, putting the Jaguars right back in the same hole.

Khan spent handsomely in the offseason to bolster the Jaguars’ roster, and we keep hearing that Blake Bortles is going to be a standout at quarterback, but on Thursday night, Jacksonville looked overmatched and under-enthused to be playing a primetime game against a division rival that won just three games last year.
