Colts promote WR Whalen from practice squad

The Indianapolis Colts promoted wide receiver Griff Whalen from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster Monday.

Whalen has two catches for 38 yards in three games this season. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent in April 2012 and was assigned to the practice squad earlier this month.

The team also signed center Thomas Austin to the practice squad. Austin was signed as a free agent on Aug. 1 and assigned to the practice squad on Sept. 1. He was then released Oct. 1. He has played seven career games with the Carolina Panthers (2012) and Houston Texans (2011).
