What should the Colts do with Art Jones

Back in 2014 the Indianapolis Colts thought the solved part of their defensive rushing problems when they inked Art Jones to a five year $33 million deal. But sometimes when you sign a big name free agent nothing goes as planned.

Over the last two seasons though Jones has played just nine games (including missing the entire 2015 season) and totaled just 23 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Not the kind of production you want from someone who is one of the 10 highest paid defensive tackles in the league.

Now Jones will face a four game suspension from using PEDs. Not to mention he is still coming back from an injury and the Colts are not sure whether or not he would have been healthy enough to start week one.

So now that Jones is facing a four game suspension what do the Colts do now? They already made Jones take a pay cut to lower their salary cap before the season started.

Remember Jones played three seasons in Baltimore and only missed four entire games and his production increased each season. The film was there. This was supposed to be the center of the Colts defense over the next decade.

Yes, Jones deserves another chance, but time and time again we have seen him under achieve because of several injuries.

So this has to be hit last stand. It is a make or break season for Jones. Either he comes back from this suspension and shows that he is a true starter for the team in front of David Parry, or the Colts must cut ties with him and face the $7.3 million cap hit next off season.

I want Jones to succeed. But the front office and coaching staff cannot wait around for another two years for him to finally get his act together.
