Colts' Arians misses practice for medical reasons

Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians was not at Thursday's practice because of medical reasons.

The Indianapolis Star reported Arians was excused to see a physician for an undisclosed illness. The matter isn't considered serious; a number of Colts players have missed time with flu-like symptoms this week.

Arians, hired as offensive coordinator in February 2011, served as interim head coach from Sept. 27 to Dec. 24 while head coach Chuck Pagano underwent treatment for leukemia. The Colts went 9-3 during that stretch.

Arians, 60, emerged as a candidate to be a head coach and is expected to interview with the San Diego Chargers. The Colts' first order of business is a wild-card playoff game Sunday at Baltimore.

An offensive assistant with the Steelers from 2004-11 -- first as wide receivers coach before five years as coordinator -- he was let go in Pittsburgh, which opted not to renew his contract.
