Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon is officially out of rehab, according to USA Today.

Gordon completed his 30-day stay at an in-patient rehabilitation center, the report said. He remains suspended indefinitely by the NFL for repeated violations of the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Gordon entered rehab just days before a four-game suspension was scheduled to be lifted, following what the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport dubbed a “slip-up” that may have further violated the policy. That leaves the 25-year-old’s football future in the hands of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Drug and alcohol issues have kept Gordon sidelined for all but five games since he led the league with 1,646 receiving yards in 2013. Following his latest rehab stint, rumors circulated that the Browns were considering cutting their troubled receiver, and Cleveland head coach Hue Jackson bluntly said last month, “I think what’s best for our football team is that we move forward and move on.

However, Gordon remains on Cleveland’s payroll. The winless Browns could still seek a trade partner for him, but that would take an awfully big leap of faith from a team if Gordon remains suspended.

Regardless, Gordon’s completion of rehab marks a significant step toward reclaiming a once promising career. Whether Goodell will agree with that sentiment remains another matter entirely.
