Chris Pratt Reveals He Spent Thousands to Be in a 2003 Cult Classic Film

He may be a big action star making big bucks, but according to Chris Pratt, there was a time when being in a movie cost him money.

Pratt went on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to promote his latest movie, The Magnificent Seven. He discussed working with Colbert 13 years ago on the movie Strangers With Candy, starring Amy Sedaris. The movie was shot in New York and they were only casting local actors. Pratt, who lived in Los Angeles, wanted to be in the movie so badly that he flew out to New York on his own dime and got the part. Then he put himself up in hotels and slept on friends’ couches for the role.

Since he was getting paid to be in the movie, Pratt said he would have broken even — if it weren’t for an emergency trip back to Los Angeles that he had to pay for.
