CFB Roundup: Gamecocks' Clowney injured, Kiel transfers to Cincinnati
Neck and back pain could sideline standout South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney for the remainder of spring practice and the Gamecocks' spring game.
Clowney, considered a 2013 Heisman Trophy candidate and a likely first-round NFL draft pick, sprained his neck in practice last week in a collision with defensive tackle J.T. Surratt and hasn't given medical clearance to return to the field. The All-American also missed a team scrimmage last Saturday.
South Carolina defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward indicated that he's not expecting Clowney to return until fall camp.
Clowney, who will be a junior this fall, finished in a tie for second in FBS in sacks with 13 and tackles for loss with 23.5 last season. He's fifth in school history with 21.0 career sacks and tied for second with 35.5 tackles for loss.
The Gamecocks' spring game is Saturday.

Kiel plans to transfer from Notre Dame to Cincinnati according to multiple reports. It will be the fourth time Kiel commits to a program, after the former Indiana Mr. Football initially committed to Indiana, switched to LSU and later backed out of that plan to sign at Notre Dame.
Many recruiting analysts pegged Kiel, a 6-4, 215-pound pro-style passer, as the top quarterback in the 2011 recruiting class. Kiel didn't play last season as the backup to Notre Dame starter Everett Golson.
---Colorado fifth-year senior Jordan Webb suffered a season-ending ACL injury in non-contact drills Tuesday and his college career could be over.
Webb, a transfer from Kansas, can petition the NCAA for a sixth-year hardship waiver, but reinstatement of his final year of eligibility is not guaranteed. Webb started 19 games at Kansas and had 1,434 yards and eight touchdowns last season with the Buffaloes.
