Buffalo Bills have significant interest in quarterback Mitch Trubisky

One of the areas fans of the Buffalo Bills have been truly split on is whether or not the Buffalo Bills should pursue a new starting quarterback for the 2017 season. While Tyrod Taylor was retained and his contract re-worked to make it much shorter and much more favorable in the long run, there is still an elevated chance that the Bills could select a quarterback in the first round of the draft.

Picking at number ten in this year’s draft, mock drafts across the internet have been all over the place in terms of how this team will pick. While some mocks see the team going wide receiver and tight end, others have the team heading towards cornerback and safety. Despite this, it looks like the first round pick of this team could in fact be a quarterback.

Speaking on Kiss 98.5fm in Buffalo the other day, head coach Sean McDermott did nothing to really push this rumors to the forefront. However, he also did nothing to really dispel them either, leading to many believing that the Bills may in fact be interested in one of the first round quarterbacks.

“We’ll take a look at those quarterbacks, but it doesn’t mean we’re taking a quarterback. Maybe these last three or four trips were just kind of all a smokescreen, right? It’s kind of like hiding your presents from your kids. You kind of put them in different spots and see, right? We’ll just see. It’s just a big mystery at this point. No one really knows. You never know who’s going to be there at No. 10 when we pick. You just got to go do the homework and study it up.”

The main contender that has so far been mentioned for the Buffalo Bills pick is quarterback Mitch Trubisky. At one time, he was seen as the number one overall selection in this year’s draft. However, due in part to his inexperience as a starter, Trubisky has now fallen out of that slot. With that said, he remains the number one quarterback prospect in this draft class.

While the team has only worked out with and met Trubisky during the draft process, many draft experts believe the Bills have substantial interest in selecting him. Given that Trubisky may fall to the lower part of the first round, the team may not even have to trade up to land him during this year’s draft.

While Tyrod Taylor remains the starter in Buffalo, he has proven that he is not the franchise quarterback that the team needs. Landing a player like Mitch Trubisky could solve that problem and put the Bills on a path to making their first playoff appearance since the turn of the century.
