Braves' Upton day to day with bruised hand

Atlanta Braves outfieldere Justin Upton suffered a contusion on his left hand after he was hit by a pitch on Thursday night and and is day to day, the Braves announced.

Upton was removed from the game in the fifth inning when he was struck by a 92 mph fastball from Cleveland Indians pitcher Ubando Jimenez. He started to walk to first base but was examined by trainers and then led to the dugout. X-rays showed no broken bones.

The 26-year-old Upton is batting .261 with 24 home runs and 64 RBIs in 121 games this season.

Earlier this month, the Braves lost outfielder Jason Heyward to a broken jaw after he was hit in the face by a pitch.
