Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was arrested in Alabama for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, a development that caused concern with his boss: Bills general manager Doug Whaley.

“We are, obviously, disappointed with this latest development involving Marcell Dareus," Whaley said in a statement. "We will be in contact with the league regarding the situation and continue to offer support and assistance to Marcell.”

Dareus was arrested with synthetic cannabis or "spice" and then released an hour later on $3,000 bond.

According to a police report, Dareus was pulled over for speeding followed by:"After investigating further, the trooper arrested the driver, Marcell Dareus, for felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dareus was placed in the Cleburne County Jail."

The Bills recently exercised a fifth-year option for the 2011 first-round draft pick from Alabama.

According to WGR, Dareus was disciplined at the end of the season for being chronically late to team meetings.

Dareus recorded 71 tackles and 7.5 sacks last season and was named to the Pro Bowl.

He was drafted third overall in 2011.
