Best XI: Week One

This is the beginning of a new weekly feature here at Rotoworld. After each gameweek, I’ll be presenting the Best XI that you could have afforded within the allowed budget. This week, I’m presenting it before the Chelsea game because it’s on a Monday, but once I have a quick and reliable process of finding the best XI, I’ll start presenting it after the last match of the gameweek.

Best XI

Points

The top possible score this week in an allowable formation was 244 points.

Cost

This week, the top score fit within our £ 100M budget, coming in at a cost of £ 95.83M. The new price of our Best XI(if you were to try to create this team now after the price changes) is £ 135.59M. That’s a 41.5% increase. I’m hoping the prices stabilize as the season continues and we see a smaller change from week to week. I’ll track these changes and present them as the season goes on.

Formation

The Best XI was in a 4-4-2 formation this week. This doesn’t mean or imply that 4-4-2 is the best formation for you to play here. Three of the top four defenders scored, but correctly predicting which defenders will score is a near impossible task from week to week. The predictable value remains in forwards and midfielders, where you can count on Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Aaron Ramsey, Sergio Aguero and similarly great attackers to score week in and week out.

Another note on defenders is that clean sheets are not very easy to predict, while good strikers are usually reliable for at least one or two shots on target, giving you a higher floor. I will also track the best formations as the season goes on and hopefully we find some useful information from that.

How many players from the Best XI did you have on your squad this week? Tell us in the comments below or on twitter.
