Best XI: Week 9

The Best XI is one of the most interesting ones we’ve had this season and that’s because of how weird the distribution of points was at the top this week. To give you an idea, there are 23 players head of David Silva this week, but he made the Best XI because of the 23 players above him - only two were midfielders. That was the result of a few clean sheets over the weekend and the fact that most goals came from strikers this week. Before I get too far ahead, here’s the Best XI.

Best XI

Points

The top possible score this week in an allowable formation was 233 points, a decrease from the record-setting week eight. Not surprising, as the low scoring midfielders brought our score down to a fairly low total.

Cost

After the insanely expensive lineup we had last week, we now reached a record low - £ 81.04M*. The reason for that is probably the high number of defenders, which usually come in a bit cheaper than midfielders and forwards. The new price of our Best XI (if you were to try to create this team now after the price changes) is £ 117.7M. That’s a 45.2% increase in price, as many of our guys were low priced players whose price shot up.

*Keep in mind the cost does NOT include any substitutes and is thus 96M instead of 100M.

MVP

This week’s MVP was Alexis Sanchez. The Arsenal man fully deserves this away after taking advantage of his opportunities against Sunderland. The winger has been very good this season and has erased all doubt from those who weren’t sure how he would adapt to the Premier League and should be used with confidence in the future.

Formation

A new formation! Isn’t this exciting? We’ve finally added 4-3-3 to our list and it was due to the fact we discussed earlier – midfielders were very low scoring this week.

Repeat Offenders

Players who have appeared on the Best XI multiple weeks. James Chester, Robert Green, and Alexis Sanchez all joined the list this week as repeat offenders but I’m still very surprised as how few players we have on this list. This just shows how unpredictable fantasy football is and how hard it is to have a consistently high scoring squad.

Team Rankings

Who would have thought that after almost one fourth of the season, Hull City will be leading these standings by a margin? I sure didn’t, but a few clean sheets and impressive phantom points from their defenders have gotten them to this point.
