Bengals avoid free agency with P Huber, LS Harris

The Cincinnati Bengals re-signed long-snapper Clark Harris and punter Kevin Huber on Friday before their contracts expired Monday.

The special teamers would have become unrestricted free agents on Tuesday if they had not agreed to new deals.

Huber arrived as a fifth-round draft pick in 2009 and has handed the Bengals' punting duties since then. His 44.0-yard career average and 38.9 net average are the best in franchise history. This past season, he averaged a team-record 46.6 yards per punt (42.0 net).

Huber also serves as the team's holder.

Harris joined the Bengals in 2009 as a free agent.

"Clark and Kevin are key specialists for us and it's great to have them in the fold before free agency begins," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said. "They have played well and are still young guys. They are entering what should be the prime years of their careers."
