Bears have restructured Jay Cutler's deal
The Chicago Bears have already restructured quarterback Jay Cutler's seven-year, $126.7 million contract that includes $54 million guaranteed.
According to a league source, the Bears converted $5 million of a $22.5 million 2014 base salary scheduled for Cutler into a signing bonus. They saved $4 million against the salary cap. His new salary-cap figure is $18.5 million, down from an original $22.5 million for a deal signed in January.
The Bears have the right contractually to convert Cutler's salary into a bonus when needed for salary-cap purposes. They can do this as often as they wish under the terms of the deal negotiated between the team and Cutler's agent, Bus Cook.
