Bears at Packers Game Preview
After a terrible loss to the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday, the Packers look to rebound against a struggling Chicago Bears team. The Bears have gotten improved play from backups at both the quarterback and the running back position in Hoyer and Howard and as a result have played improved football the past two weeks, almost picking up wins against both Indianapolis and Jacksonville. Green Bay played a sloppy game against Dallas last week and are looking to pick up another win and build some momentum heading into midseason.
Offensive Players to Watch:
Chicago Bears: Alshon Jeffery
With a beaten and battered Green Bay secondary expect the Bears to try and take advantage of the matchup issues. Jeffery, who has been quiet on the field for most of the season so far is due to have a big game any week now, especially now that he’s getting more consistent play at the quarterback position.
Green Bay Packers: Knile Davis
It almost seems ridiculous that a player who wasn’t on the team a week ago would already play such a key role, but with the news that the injury to Lacy is more serious than previously speculated Davis will be asked to play a large role in the Packers backfield. Until Rodgers snaps out of his funk the Packers are going to need a strong running game to win games, and that’s going to fall on the newly acquired Knile Davis.

Defensive Players to Watch:
Chicago Bears: Tracy Porter
It’s an opportunity for redemption for Tracy Porter, who blew coverage to give Jacksonville the game winning touchdown last week. With the Packers having trouble running the football and the newly acquired Davis seeming to be their best option in the backfield, the Packers offense will probably be throwing the ball a lot and Porter is going to have the opportunity for a big game.
Green Bay Packers: Ladarius Gunter
Gunter is in a very similar situation to Tracy Porter. He didn’t play that well last week against the Cowboys and needs to step up in this game if the Packers are going to get the win. Gunter, who’s been forced to step up into a CB1 role due to injuries should be improving week by week as he gets more experience at the position. The shortened break between Sunday and Thursday tends to simplify the games, which should help him.
Prediction:
The home teams tend to have big advantages on Thursday night and regardless of how sloppy the Packers played last week I don’t think they lose at home after a short week to a lackluster Bears team. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rodgers and McCarthy finally put together a complete game offensively and blew the Bears out of the water, but even if they don’t they should still get the win.
