One of Baylor’s best defenders has been cleared to return to the field.

Nickel back Travon Blanchard had knee surgery to repair a damaged meniscus on Aug. 24 and has missed the Bears’ games against Northwestern State and SMU. However, Sunday evening, Blanchard tweeted that he’s been cleared to return to practice.

Blanchard, a junior, had 83 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions in 13 games last season. The Bears haven’t needed him in blowout wins against Northwestern State and SMU and likely won’t need him for this weekend’s game against Rice. However, he should have just enough time to get back into shape for the Big 12 Conference opener against Oklahoma State on Sept. 24.
