Baseball-Mets slugger Cespedes hit by pitch, no bones broken

(Adds details, manager's quotes) * Cespedes suffers bruised fingers * Manager relieved injury not serious Sept 30 (Reuters) - The New York Mets got a scare when slugger Yoenis Cespedes was hit by a pitch on his left hand and forced from their game against Philadelphia on Wednesday. Cespedes fell to the ground after being struck by pitcher Justin De Fratus during the third inning and stayed there for a few moments before being replaced in the lineup. The Mets announced that X-rays for broken bones were negative. Cespedes suffered two bruised fingers but is otherwise expected to make a quick return. "I just finished talking to him and he said 'if you need me I can play,'" Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters after New York's 7-5 loss to the Phillies. "We'll give him a day off (Thursday), let his hand heal up a little bit. We're relieved that he's OK." Cespedes has been a major spark for New York, helping them win the National League East and clinch a playoff appearance for the first time since 2006. Since the Mets acquired him at the trade deadline in July, Cespedes is batting .287 with 17 home runs in 53 games with the team.
