Bailey delivers no-hitter vs. Pirates
When Homer Bailey checked the scoreboard for another reason, he realized he had a no-hitter going.
"I figured out in about the sixth," Bailey said. "I needed five or six to get 200 innings. That was a
goal of mine since the beginning of the season. I happened to look up there. There was a couple of zeros up
there. I was like, 'Wow, this is happening.'
"I just tried to make one pitch at a time. That's about it."
Bailey struck out 10 and walked one to no-hit the Pirates 1-0 Friday night.
Bailey, 26, came into this year 25-23 with a 4.89 career ERA. He's 13-10 with a 3.75 ERA this year.
"His progression has been unbelievable," catcher Ryan Hanigan said. "When he came into the league, he
was hard-headed. He tried to throw fastballs by guys. He's a four-pitch pitcher. That's rare. All his
pitchers are quality. We used them all tonight. There's time for power, and there's time for location and
deception.
"You never know how good this guy can be."
Bailey was limited to 22 starts last year.
